Passing shadows

Passing Shadows are a series of one-to-one replicas of real, caught patterns of passing light. By placing paper on the walls, I traced the shifting forms of light and shadow. A grasp of time – eight minutes and seventeen seconds – the time it takes for sunlight to reach us. A remnant of light, an existential source of life, traveling across one hundred million kilometres… Again and again, these rays enter our daily spaces, our small rooms where we, too, leave traces behind.

The idea began with mixing leftover pastels from a previous project. The blended, brownish, earthy mass contained all the colours of the set. As I wondered what to do with it, I thought of light and darkness. In these drawings, light is erased, and shadows are rendered from the full spectrum of colour.
